In May 2021, Amalia Rinehart earned her doctorate degree in piano from Stony Brook University, where she studied with Professor Gilbert Kalish. She earned her Master of Music degree from Stony Brook, and her Bachelor’s in music (theory and history) from Columbia University, from which she graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Prior to studying with Prof. Kalish, she studied with Reiko Uchida and Molly Morkoski.
Ms. Rinehart loves ensemble playing and has won recognition for her work as a chamber musician. In past summers she has participated in the Beethoven Institute at Mannes School of Music (NY), Icicle Creek Chamber Music Festival (WA), Colorado College Summer Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival (ME) as a Kaplan Fellow, Sarasota Music Festival (FL), the Kneisel Hall Festival (ME) as a fellow in the Young Artist Chamber Music Program, and the Olympic Music Festival (WA). While at Columbia, she was a recipient of the university’s Rapaport Prize for summer music study. In addition, she trained as an organist, studying for four years under the tutelage of William Peek. Her lifelong love of art as well as music has led her to research the ways in which the two have historically intersected.
